A Lynnwood homeowner called us out in May for a leaking kitchen sink that was also draining slowly — two problems that turned out to share a cause. Bradyn found the galvanized nipple coming out of the wall had rusted through, so he cut it back and adapted the connection to plastic. Then he cabled the kitchen line several times before the blockage finally cleared, roughly eight to ten feet out. It was hair bound up in rusty galvanized scale, which tells you the condition of the pipe below.
We told the homeowner plainly that we couldn't warranty drain cleaning on a compromised line, and that the tubular under the sink was old enough to be worth replacing. That's the sort of call you can only make honestly if you're willing to lose the sale.
