Toilet Installation in Carnation, WA

New Toilets, Resets and Repairs In Town and Up the Valley

Lighthouse Plumbing installs and replaces toilets in Carnation from our shop in Fall City, about 15 minutes down the valley. We supply a new Toto or American Standard, or set one you've bought, on a new wax ring, closet bolts and supply line, check the flange and the shutoff, test it and haul the old toilet away.

Recent Toilet Work in Carnation

In late June, Caleb was at a home in town for a plumbing inspection and found a crack in the hall bathroom's toilet tank. Two days later he came back and replaced the toilet: the old one out and disposed of, a new standard-grade toilet set on a new wax ring with new closet bolts and caps, a new braided stainless supply line, and the closet flange checked while the floor was open. He tested the fill valve, the flush and the drain, confirmed it was dry at the base, and looked over the primary bathroom's toilet while he was there. The visit took about two hours.

The flange after the old toilet came up, before the new wax ring went on. It is checked on every install, because the new seal is only as good as what it sits on.

That is the only toilet job inside Carnation's city limits in our 2026 files, so the rest of our Carnation toilet work is from the homes around it, which share a Carnation address but sit in unincorporated King County:

  • North of town in August, PJ and Alex replaced an aging toilet with a Toto Drake elongated comfort-height model with a soft-close seat. The old one-piece multi-turn shutoff behind it went too, replaced with a quarter-turn ball valve, and the new toilet was set on a new wax ring and bolts, tested and caulked at the base.
  • West of the river in July, Bradyn replaced a toilet that kept backing up after something was lost down it, with a new Toto Drake and soft-close seat. The flange sat unusually deep below the floor, which he noted as a risk for the wax seal, and the shutoff would not close all the way, so he recommended replacing it.
  • Near Stillwater in July, Caleb replaced a fill valve and supply line in about half an hour. In June, on another Stillwater home, PJ and Alex shut the main water down to replace a toilet shutoff that would not hold, along with the supply line and fill valve.
  • Outside town in May, Donald pulled and reset a master-bathroom toilet on a new wax ring to chase a ceiling leak below it. Ten test flushes and seven minutes of running the shower could not reproduce the leak, which pointed at the shower's worn caulking rather than the toilet.

What We Install in Carnation

New toilets we supply

Toto Drakes and American Standard Cadet Pros, in elongated or round-front bowls and standard or comfort height, with a soft-close seat, new wax ring, closet bolts and braided supply line. We take the old toilet with us.

Toilets you've bought

We set a toilet you've picked out the same way. Tell us the model when you book so we bring the right supply line, and check the box for cracks before we arrive.

Resets and repairs

A toilet that leaks at the base, rocks, or keeps running usually needs a reset on a new wax ring or a new fill valve and flapper, not a new toilet. Those repairs and the shutoff valve behind the toilet are covered on our toilet repair page.

Carnation-Specific Toilet Considerations

In town, a toilet that backs up may not be clogged

Inside the city, your house drains by gravity to a valve pit, and Carnation's vacuum sewer carries the wastewater from there. The city's standards also require a backwater valve on every house. When a toilet in town backs up with nothing stuck in it, the valve or the side sewer can be the reason, which is why we clear a line through the valve and check it before we blame the toilet. Our Carnation sewer page covers that system.

Outside town, the toilet is on septic

The homes around Carnation with a city address but a county tax bill drain to their own septic tanks. A toilet that backs up there can be the toilet, the line to the tank, or a full tank, and we have cleared more than one Carnation main this year only after the tank was pumped. A new toilet does not change that.

Water from a spring in town, wells outside it

Carnation's city water comes mostly from a spring south of town backed by a community well, and many homes on Tolt Hill, toward Stillwater and along the river draw from private wells. On a well, the fill valve sees whatever the well sends it, so a toilet that fills slowly or keeps running can be a water question as much as a toilet question. We look at both.

Old shutoffs behind the toilet

Both the August and the July replacements above met a shutoff that would not close properly. A toilet swap is the cheapest time to replace a multi-turn stop with a quarter-turn valve, and we do it while the water is already off.

Permits

Inside the city limits, plumbing permits are issued by the City of Carnation, which publishes its own plumbing permit application; outside them, by Public Health Seattle & King County. Clearing a clog, resetting a toilet and replacing the parts inside the tank are repairs under the state plumbing code and need no permit. Our June replacement in town went onto the existing flange and supply with no permit involved. If a job needs the drain or the piping changed, we tell you before we start.

Our Process

1. Look first

We check the toilet, the flange, the shutoff and the rough-in, and give you the price before any work starts.

2. Remove the old toilet

Water off at the shutoff, or at the main when the shutoff will not hold, then the supply disconnected and the old toilet lifted off the flange.

3. Set the new one

A new wax ring, new closet bolts and a new supply line, the toilet set level and secured.

4. Test and haul away

We flush it, check the base, the tank and the supply connection for leaks, and take the old toilet with us.

Frequently Asked Questions: Toilets in Carnation

How much does it cost to replace a toilet in Carnation?

On our 2026 Carnation invoices, replacing one toilet with a new Toto Drake or a standard-grade toilet we supplied ran about $1,050 to $1,350 with tax, including the wax ring, bolts, supply line and haul-away. Replacing a fill valve, supply line or shutoff ran about $350 to $400, and pulling and resetting a toilet to find a leak about $700.

What moves the price: a shutoff that needs replacing, a flange that needs repair, a deep-set flange, or a toilet model beyond the standard Toto and American Standard lines.

Why does my toilet in Carnation back up when nothing is clogged in it?

In town, the side sewer ends at a valve pit on the city's vacuum sewer, and every house has a backwater valve, so a backup with a clear toilet usually points at the valve or the line, not the fixture. Outside town, the same symptom often means a full septic tank or a blocked line to it.

Either way we clear and check the line before recommending a new toilet, because a new toilet on a backed-up drain backs up too.

Do I need a permit to replace a toilet in Carnation?

Clearing a clog, resetting a toilet and replacing the parts inside the tank are repairs under the state plumbing code and need no permit, and our June replacement in town went onto its existing flange and supply with none involved. Rebuilding the drain or the flange piping does need one.

In that case the permit comes from the City of Carnation inside the city limits and from Public Health Seattle & King County outside them.

Do you install toilets outside the Carnation city limits?

Yes. Most of our Carnation toilet work this year was on homes north of town toward Stillwater and west of the river, all on septic and many on wells. We bring the same new wax ring, bolts and supply line, and when the complaint is a backup rather than a leak, we check the septic side first.

Serving Carnation from Fall City

Carnation is about 7 miles and 15 minutes up the valley from our shop in Fall City, so a toilet call on the blocks off Tolt Avenue, out by Tolt-MacDonald Park, up on Tolt Hill or north toward Stillwater fits easily into the day. We cover the rest of the valley the same way, in Duvall, Fall City, Snoqualmie and North Bend.
